Volkswagen suspends car assembly in Russia over lack of components

MOSCOW, Mar 24 (PRIME) -- German car producer Volkswagen will suspend car assembly in Russia for two weeks from March 30 due to the lack of component parts that the European plants were to supply, a representative of the company told PRIME on Tuesday.

“Due to the lack of components that the European plants supply, Volkswagen Group Rus will suspend its production at the car plant in Kaluga and the contract assembly in Nizhny Novgorod temporarily for two weeks, from March 30 through April 10, 2020,” the representative said.

The company will pay its employees for the downtime according to Russian legislation. Volkswagen will ensure consistent delivery of cars and spare parts to the dealers and consumers, the representative said.
